: Styling the Seasons, by Apartment Apothecary and Lotts and Lots :
“Reflect the change of seasons and show those changes in your own home, by styling any surface (shelf, dining table, mantelpiece) with something you like to reflect the new month and what it means to you”
Well December is certainly whizzing by, isn’t it? This week we got our tree (it’s a real beauty), and I got as far as putting the fairy lights on it before I stalled. The boxes of decorations, brought down from the loft, then sat there untouched as I totally lost interest in getting them on the tree. I don’t know if it’s because we’ve got our tree earlier than usual so my December timeline feels all messed up, but I’ve just not quite found my festive mojo yet.
Anyway, earlier today the kids were happily immersed in an elaborate game of spiderman and spidergirl, when I had a flash of inspiration for my December Styling the Seasons post, so I grabbed my camera and some decs and went with it. I remember seeing a similar styling idea years ago in a magazine – decorations in a vintage suitcase – but I’ve never had the right sized case to give it a try. Then my mum dropped over this gorgeous little case that used to belong to my nanna for my table at the vintage prop sale back in October. Luckily it didn’t sell, and it was absolutely perfect for the Christmas display I had in mind.
I’ve popped the case on a stool in our bedroom and filled it with baubles (most of them belonged to my grandparents before me), and a little group of bottle-brush trees. The star above is one of a set of vintage cake moulds that usually adorn the wall in the kitchen. I really enjoyed the time I spent styling this mini display up and it worked it’s magic because now I’m definitely in the mood to get on with decorating the rest of the house.
The last shot is without the fairy lights because I can’t decide which I prefer – which do you like more?!

This is amazing! Love all the different textures and muted colours. I think I prefer without the lights – love the simplicity of it xx

Yes, I’m rather partial to the simplicity without the lights too. Although I LOVE fairy lights. Oh, the dilemma…

Is it possible to have too many fairy lights? If so, our house is definitely guilty 😉
