A couple of months ago, I got to spend an exciting day in Sharps‘ flagship showroom on Baker Street, giving their Henley bedroom a smart modern country makeover. The room previously had a coastal theme, but I wanted to update this with a relaxed county feel that was luxurious and inviting. Texture played a key role in my styling, and for my colour scheme I opted for layered neutrals with a soft, blush pink as an accent, which would work well with the warm grey and elegant lines of the Henley fitted furniture in the space.
The main decorating change in the room was the gorgeous feature wall behind the bed. I wanted to give the wall a panelled effect, in keeping with a country look – and this geometric wood panelling wallpaper by Albany is perfect. The pink and grey colourway was just the ticket, plus the wallpaper is a total bargain at just £16.99 per roll.
For accessories I combined some beautiful, classic bits from modern country favourites such as Cox and Cox with vintage treasures that I picked up in my local junk shop (my happy place!). Adding antique or vintage pieces is something I always do when I’m styling up a space, as I love how their worn finishes add a sense of history. Plus it means you can pick up lovely unique items that no-one else will have in their home.
Reading nooks are big news at the moment so Sharps added a built-in window seat between the fitted wardrobes which I’ve turned into a little chill-out area in the room (as well as offering extra storage – always a winner in my book).
Texture is an absolute must in a modern country space to create that all-important rustic feel and add warmth and comfort. As well as gorgeous wood finishes, I included chunky knits, crisp linen and soft velvets in my scheme.
I’ll be sharing more from this bedroom makeover over the next few weeks and, excitingly, I’m back on your screens! I’ve wanted to get back into making videos for my YouTube channel Heather’s Space for months, and this project with Sharps gave me the perfect opportunity. My first film tells the story of my general approach to styling this space, so grab a cuppa and have a watch now. Oh, and for more modern country inspiration, why not have a browse of my ‘Sharps modern country bedroom’ Pinterest board…
