2017 sees a big change for our household, as I have a new job and will go back to work full-time after seven years freelancing from home. It feels like the right time – the twins are happy and settled at school, I’m keen to get my teeth into a new challenge, and the job I’m starting is flexible in terms of my hours and working from home. While I’m excited about this new chapter, I’m under no illusions that full-time working is going to be a bit of a shock to the system for all of us. I juggle a lot of balls, and it’s going to take some hefty organisation to keep them all in the air.
For a start, I don’t think I’ve worn a watch since the last time I worked in an office, over seven years ago. But I’m pretty sure that wearing one will help me manage my time better as I’m less likely to get distracted by notifications when I check the clock on my phone! The look of the Cora wood watch from JORD is perfect for me – it has a professional edge, but the unique wood finish makes it a little more informal. The JORD women’s watches and men’s watches come in a huge range of colour and style options, but I’ve got a real thing for rose gold at the moment, so I love the rose gold and unusual Koa wood combination. In the winter the watch looks great with chunky knits, and I can’t wait to see it on my tanned arm in the summer!
Another way I’m hoping to get more organised is by keeping up with the Best Self Journal I got given for Christmas. I’m absolutely terrible at setting goals for myself, so I think this will be a really good tool to help me focus and get on the right track. I’ll be using my journal in conjunction with the Blogtacular Life Planner by Lollipop Designs. This proved invaluable last year – I use the monthly planner pages as an editorial calendar for Growing Spaces, and the weekly planner pages to help me schedule my days – so it was a no-brainer when I wanted a new planner for 2017.
And finally, I’ve given my wardrobe a good clear out to make it easier to select outfits for work. I bought a couple of new pieces in the sales, but didn’t go mad, opting for things such as a decent new pair of jeans and a classic white shirt (and maybe a handbag which I really didn’t need, but if starting a new job isn’t a good enough excuse for a new handbag then I don’t know what is). I’m focusing on accessories to add my own style – things like my Cora watch and statement jewellery will help me stand out (along with OhNoRachio’s Good Vibes rose gold enamel pin on my jacket). It was also our tenth wedding anniversary over the Christmas period, and Ben gave me a beautiful eternity ring to match the bracelet he gave me on the morning of our wedding and which I wear every single day. I wasn’t expecting it at all and I absolutely adore it – he’s won himself considerable brownie points!
