Change is good: a new living room display

If you’ve been reading Growing Spaces for a while, you’ll know that nothing in our house stays the same for long. I’m constantly changing, tweaking, rearranging. It’s not a seasonal thing particularly, it’s something that I do all the time. I might pick up a new idea from another blog, or from social media or Pinterest. I might have bought a new vase/plant/stool/cupboard that needs a home created for it, or it could be that I just want to embrace the chance to potter around. I find creating a new little display both relaxing and exciting – I’m in the…

Memories of Glenorchy, New Zealand

This is where I was on this day, exactly two years ago. The day after my brother’s wedding in Queenstown, New Zealand,  I drove along the edge of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy, on the lake’s northern end. The colours were so rich, so saturated, so overwhelming that it was almost too much to cope with with my hangover from the previous day’s festivities, but the kids lapped up the sense of space and freedom. A homespun wedding in New Zealand

Two weeks ago I went to one of the most special and gorgeous weddings I’ve ever been to. Obviously I’m biased, as it was my little brother’s big day, and I travelled 11,700 miles to the other side of the world (Queenstown, New Zealand) to be there, but the day really was overflowing with love and fun from start to finish. Billy and his gorgeous Brazilian bride Dani kept things small, with around 50 guests – a real melting pot of nationalities, with an eclectic mix of people from all over the world. The ceremony and reception were held in…

A new adventure for 2018: Timber Festival

After the completely incredible Just So Festival being a firm fixture in our family calendar for the last five years, we were absolutely gutted when we realised we weren’t going to be able to make it there  this year (unless we sacrifice our summer adventure to France in the camper van, and I was tempted, believe me). Maybe it was fate because right at that moment, the fantastically talented event team behind Just So, Wild Rumpus, announced a brand new festival for 2018 called Timber, that promises to have the same small, community feel and creative approach. ‘Timber is an extraordinary new festival…

Getting organised for 2017 and a great giveaway

2017 sees a big change for our household, as I have a new job and will go back to work full-time after seven years freelancing from home. It feels like the right time – the twins are happy and settled at school, I’m keen to get my teeth into a new challenge, and the job I’m starting is flexible in terms of my hours and working from home. While I’m excited about this new chapter, I’m under no illusions that full-time working is going to be a bit of a shock to the system for all of us. I juggle…
