New addition: vintage school lab bench

Changes are afoot in our kitchen, but they’re at that annoying stage where there are lots of little things to finish off before I can share proper pics here. Instead I’ll show you a sneaky peek of our latest eBay purchase.

The twins and I got home from our trip to NZ to find that my clever husband had bit the bullet and built a banquette as a surprise while we were away. So we needed to find an affordable kitchen island to replace the table in the centre of the kitchen. Stalking eBay for vintage school lab benches, we finally stuck gold and here’s a look at what we bought.

I absolutely love that battered work surface. It needs oiling really but I’m not sure I can bring myself to do it. And I think we’ll paint the legs. Will bring you finished pics at some point soon I hope.

I can’t wait to see that. I’ve a pine table in my kitchen that has seen better days and I need to revamp it.

It’s had one coat of Annie Sloan paint on its legs now but I think it needs another. I’ll definitely share when it’s done!
