Having boy girl twins that share a room means that we’ve had to find a decorating scheme for their bedroom that suits them both (see the bright shades in our Penguin-books-themed nursery), but even if this wasn’t the case, you wouldn’t catch me opting for the traditional pink or blue. See I have a big problem with the widespread gender-based marketing and promotion of products for kids – from toys, to decor, to clothes – so thinking outside the box when it comes to decorating children’s bedrooms is something I’m rather obsessed with.
This is the first in a series of posts on Growing Spaces to showcase decorating schemes for any child’s room, whatever their gender. First up are green kids’ rooms (I’ll be covering lots of other colours in future posts) – from vivid emerald to pastel mint, green is a versatile choice. Use it across large areas such as walls or floors, or limit it to accents in a white or neutral room. Here are some great green rooms to inspire you…

White or green then?!
This post looks at green, but obviously I’ll be covering lots of other colours in future posts!
I decided on a gender neutral Noah’s Ark mural, it’s on Twitter @paulswonderwall if you’d like to see it. I agree there’s far too much gender based marketing and products out there which is why we went for this.
Have just had a look – how lovely and bright it is!
My 2yo & 8yo share a room, they have mint green walls and owl wallpaper on one wall which is slightly pinker than any other colour but he’s 2, he doesn’t care & loves the owls and birds!
That sounds great Hayley. I think next week’s post will actually be on using pink for gender-neutral rooms as I don’t think it should only be for girls!
