I’m calling it – the autumn cleanse beats the spring clean hands down for me. In spring, all I want to do is get outside, but in autumn I go into full home declutter mode. For some reason this always takes me by surprise, but having looked back in my blog archive it seems I get this urge every September. It’s my seasonal reset button, with its promise of a new start (remember the joy of all that new stationary for the brand new school year?), and the reintroduction of routine and structure after the summer break. So I’ve gone into… View Post

I’ve got my head round the fact autumn’s here, and I’m embracing it. I think I actually get more of an urge to clear and organise in autumn than I do in spring, when it’s traditional to tackle the clutter. It’s probably those old ‘back to school’ habits, where the new school year promises a clean slate. Whatever it is, I’ve found myself sorting, rearranging, and tweaking things all around the house. Ben struggles to keep up – everytime he comes home from work something else has been moved or re-jigged. The kitchen hasn’t escaped my antics – it’s amazing how… View Post

The month of May has meant a lot more time spent outside. The weather has been kind to us, we had our impromptu weekend away in Dorset, plus we’ve been hard at work in the garden – an ambitious project that I’m sure I’ll be sharing with you soon (if you follow me on snapchat – heatheryounguk – you’ll have already seen a bit of what we’ve been up to). Our garden has burst into bloom, and I’ve all relished spending time out there again, especially when I catch the heady scent of  jasmine on the breeze. Other things – the… View Post

: Styling the Seasons, by Apartment Apothecary and Lotts and Lots : “Reflect the change of seasons and show those changes in your own home, by styling any surface (shelf, dining table, mantelpiece) with something you like to reflect the new month and what it means to you” November’s Styling the Seasons challenge was a little bit different to usual. Teaming up with Emily Quinton from Makelight, this month it’s all about the seasonal flat lay. Now I have done a few flat lays (images of things laid flat, shot from above) on Instagram, but it’s not something that I… View Post

When Cable & Cotton challenged me to blog about their ‘Glow’ lights as festively as possible, playing on the word ‘glow’, there was no way I could turn them down. It’s no secret how much I love fairy lights, and at Christmas I jump at the chance to fill the house with as many twinkling lights as possible. My favourites are warmer white lights, so the colours of the ‘Glow’ lights (pale grey, oatmeal and ivory) work perfectly with all the other lights that are strung around our house and garden. One of our Christmas traditions (dating back to pre-children)… View Post
