This is the last in my series on the relaxed country Henley bedroom makeover I worked on with Sharps at their flagship Baker Street showroom, and today I’m focusing on the main focal point in the room – the bed. As the largest piece of furniture in the room, the bed is the star of any bedroom, so it’s important to make sure you use that visual space to really highlight the area. Don’t the beds in hotels and showrooms always looks so perfectly dressed? There are some really simple steps stylists and designers use to create this luxurious look, and I’ve shared them in my latest YouTube video so head over to have a quick watch.
Here are my three simple steps to the perfectly dressed bed..
- BEAUTIFUL BED LINEN
I switched my cotton bed linen for pure linen this time last year and it was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done. Not only does it always look fantastic (I love that it even looks great when it’s really creased), I find it super comfortable to sleep under. I’m a total convert! The texture of linen was perfect for the modern country look I wanted to give this Henley room set, so I chose pure linen bedding in the palest of pinks, and also added a couple of pillowcases in white as a contrast against the pink. I’ve always been a white bed linen girl, and this is a great default as it will look fresh and crisp, but I love the very slight pink hue to this linen, and ties in nicely with the feature wallpaper. - CUSHIONS
The best dressed beds always have a good stack of cushions on them. Granted, you have to move them off when you climb into bed, but I don’t think a bed looks fully dressed without at least one cushion. When it comes to luxury, it’s a case of the more the better – layer cushions up biggest to smallest, front to back to make the bed look as comfortable and inviting as possible. - BEDSPREAD OR THROW
A throw or bedspread over the bed adds a good contrast to the linen, and is also a great way to introduce warmth and texture (knits are perfect) – a particularly important element if you’re looking to create a modern country feel. Make sure to leave a band of the bed linen below visible to highlight the layering effect, and always go for a throw or bedspread that will drape generously down the sides of the bed. Something too small will look awkward, and you want the overall feel to be all about sumptuous luxury and comfort.
