While I had all the painting stuff out to paint the living room aquamarine, it seemed rude not to introduce that soft green colour to the bedroom, too, especially when I saw how fresh and calming it felt on the walls. We’ve used it on the wall that used to be a pale, soft grey and it has definitely brightened up the room. I bought an old battered wardrobe a few years ago at a house clearance warehouse with the intention of painting it, but it dropped to the bottom of our to-do list pretty quickly. Riding high on the… View Post

I can’t remember the last time I had bed linen that wasn’t white (or the lightest grey). I’ve been a firm believer in white bed linen for as long as I can remember, but when I posted about this recently, the very lovely Clarissa Hulse dropped me a message setting me a challenge to give something else a go. I’ve loved Clarissa’s colourful screen-printed patterns for a decade – she even treated me to a go at screen-printing my own cushion cover a couple of years ago – but I’ve never taken the plunge and tried any of her designs on… View Post

I’m a big fan of decorating with neutrals, but I make an exception when it comes to the kids’ bedrooms, where we’ve taken a more colourful approach. When these were decorated a couple of years ago, we used bright colours that the twins chose themselves (yellow for Ez, and a vivid green for Fonz) – these feel fun, fresh and full of energy. When it comes to kids’ rooms, one super-easy way to add colour that can be changed very easily is with bed linen. The bed tends to be the largest piece of furniture in the room, and so it’s… View Post

Since we swapped our old double bed in the guest room for a Hemnes daybed from Ikea to free up some floor space, we’ve needed to come up with a bedside table solution. The drawers pull out to turn the single bed into a double, but once we’ve done that there isn’t space for a bedside table between the bed and doorway, so we decided a wall-mounted option was our best bet. We chose our favourite DIY material, plywood, swapped our usual drill for Gorilla Wood Glue, and got building. I sketched out a super-simple design for a wall-mounted bedside shelf – it… View Post

This is the last in my series on the relaxed country Henley bedroom makeover I worked on with Sharps at their flagship Baker Street showroom, and today I’m focusing on the main focal point in the room – the bed. As the largest piece of furniture in the room, the bed is the star of any bedroom, so it’s important to make sure you use that visual space to really highlight the area. Don’t the beds in hotels and showrooms always looks so perfectly dressed? There are some really simple steps stylists and designers use to create this luxurious look, and… View Post
