And then they were 7, part 1 | Unicorn party ideas

Another year, another birthday party, another time I’ve spent ages prepping for a party only to forget that in the hurricane that is 20 kids, there will be zero time to even take a breath, and all those good intentions of taking beautiful photographs of all the great makes and activities will get totally forgotten. Two years ago: circus theme party. Last year: camping theme party (this was the best party ever). But I have next to no pictures of either one. When you organise a kids’ birthday party yourself, and you’re being the ‘entertainer’, it’s full on. You have…

Butterfly conservation with B&Q

We’ve had some exciting guests staying with us for the last few weeks as part of B&Q‘s new partnership with wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation. The aim of this collaboration is to encourage people to plan butterfly and pollinator-friendly plants in their garden to help create a better home for insects. The last weeks of four

It’s just four weeks until the twins turn five, and on that very day they’ll also head off for their first day at school. These are the sort of weeks that have wings. Hello freckles

One of my absolute favourite things about Spring? We get outside, and almost immediately Fonz’s nose gets a sprinkling of the most gorgeous freckles. His skin is so fair that even the most subtle of freckles, which these are, jump out at me, and I fall madly in love with every, single tiny little one. They make my heart flutter. I managed to persuade him to pose for a photograph on the promise that we would compare a picture of his freckles now with a picture of his freckles after our Europe road trip. All that time outside – I…

Twins at four

Usually I find the twins’ birthdays bittersweet. Of course I love to celebrate another year passing, but it’s always tinged with a sadness that time is flying past too quickly, that it’s racing away from me. For some reason this year felt a bit different. I can’t quite put my finger on why but I am suddenly more positive and more at peace. No tears were shed by me on their birthday this year. For a start, the twins’ excitement about their birthday was catching. In fact, their excitement about life in general is catching. And I feel like life…
