Project Van: Our VW T5 camper conversion

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that we made an incredibly exciting (and rather terrifying) purchase a few weeks ago. This is our new (to us) VW T5, and I still can’t quite believe it’s ours! We’ve day-dreamed about owning our own camper van for years, but I don’t think either of us ever really thought it would actually happen. But it has. Ben’s car completely died on us, and this rather accelerated the whole thing, and we are now the very proud owners of a 2014 T5 Transporter. The van has been named – Algie (short for…

DIY jewellery stand

Gosh it feels like a while since I got my craft on. Seems that heading back to almost-full-time work takes a toll on the craft mojo, or maybe it’s just that I need to make more effort to carve out some time. I feel like I have lots of projects sort of on the go, but rarely actually get to finish anything, let alone get it photographed to share here. DIY gutter herb planter with Gorilla Glue

One thing we’ve been wanting to do since we finished our big modern garden makeover at the end of the summer is to make use of the back of the built-in bench which is right next to our back door. We do have a wall planter on the fencing, but I fancied having a couple of herb planters closer to the door, filled with the herbs I use most often when cooking. I’ve used some offcuts of rain guttering for this DIY project, along with a pot of original Gorilla Glue. This super-strong adhesive will bond a whole host of different materials to each…

DIY plywood bedside shelves with Gorilla Glue

Since we swapped our old double bed in the guest room for a Hemnes daybed from Ikea to free up some floor space, we’ve needed to come up with a bedside table solution. The drawers pull out to turn the single bed into a double, but once we’ve done that there isn’t space for a bedside table between the bed and doorway, so we decided a wall-mounted option was our best bet. We chose our favourite DIY material, plywood, swapped our usual drill for Gorilla Wood Glue, and got building. I sketched out a super-simple design for a wall-mounted bedside shelf – it…

What’s inside an interior stylist’s toolkit?

A while ago, a friend messaged me to ask wha I keep in my interior stylist’s toolkit that I take with me on photo shoots. As I sent her back my long list of styling kit essentials, I thought it would make a great post on Growing Spaces, and so here I am, eventually sharing it with you. Not only is this a great checklist of things to take on a shoot, but everything in it is useful for small DIY or craft projects at home, too. The above is my current wish-list, including some of the key items I wouldn’t be without:…
