New love: my fiddle leaf fig (ficus lyrata)

As birthday presents go, this was a parcel that was hard to beat – a huge box, with a few tantalising leaves poking out of the box – inside was the most gorgeous fiddle leaf fig tree (ficus lystrata). It was a gift from my lovely mother-in-law (she sourced this beauty from The Palm Centre), and I was over the moon because I have wanted to add a fiddle leaf fig tree to my plant family for absolutely ages. Having got my green-fingered confidence up over the last couple of years tending lots of succulents and other low-maintenance houseplants such…

Urban Jungle: Living and Styling with Plants book review

Trust me when I tell you that Urban Jungle: Living and Styling with Plants by Igor Josif and Judith de Graaff (the founders of Urban Jungle Bloggers) is an absolute joy to read. Whether you’re well along the path to plant addition, or don’t have a clue where to start, this book delivers inspiration and advice in abundance. String shelving display

Still in France. Still doing daily battle with 3G. I am currently sat in the nearest McDonalds with a strong black coffee so I can get a quick bit of work done, so apologies for the brevity of this post! Living the high life and all that. I can’t remember if I…

The month of May has meant a lot more time spent outside. The weather has been kind to us, we had our impromptu weekend away in Dorset, plus we’ve been hard at work in the garden – an ambitious project that I’m sure I’ll be sharing with you soon (if you follow me on snapchat – heatheryounguk – you’ll have already seen a bit of what we’ve been up to). Our garden has burst into bloom, and I’ve all relished spending time out there again, especially when I catch the heady scent of  jasmine on the breeze. Other things – the…

How to create a wall of plants

We recently decorated our hallway, stairway and landing – finally ridding the house of its last areas of beige and magnolia, and painting everything a fresh, bright white. Obviously this meant taking everything down off the walls, and I’ve taken my time deciding what to fill that great, white expanse of wall on the stairway. I wanted to try to introduce some plants there if I could, but I couldn’t work out quite how to go about doing it. Then I went along to B&Q’s recent press show, and saw some clever wall hooks made using plywood – we were…
